
Laura Jeanne Reese Witherspoon (born on March 22, 1976) is an American actress. Her many accolades include an Academy Award, British Academy Film Award and Primetime Emmy Award. She has also won two Golden Globe Awards. Time magazine named her one of the 100 most influential people around the globe in both 2006 and 2015 and Forbes listed her among the World's 100 Most Powerful Women in 2021 and 2019. In 2021, Forbes named her the highest-paid actress in the world, with an estimated total worth of $400 million.Witherspoon began her career at the age of a teenager, making her screen debut in The Man in the Moon (1991). In 1999, she made her name with her character of the supporting actor in Cruel Intentions. She was also famous for playing Tracy Flick as Election's black comedy. The actress gained more attention for her role as Elle Woods in the comedy Legally Blonde (2001) and its sequel in 2003, and for her role in the romantic comedy Sweet Home Alabama (2002). In 2005, she earned critical acclaim and won the Academy Award for Best Actress for portraying June Carter Cash in the musical biopic Walk the Line. Following a slump in her career, that included Water for Elephants (2011) was her only box office success, Witherspoon decided to make a comeback and produce and play Cheryl Strayed, the drama Wild (2014). The film earned her a second Academy Award nomination in the category of Best Actress. Since then, she's been working mostly in the world of television, directing and starring in various women-led literary adaptations produced by her company Hello Sunshine. They include the HBO drama series Big Little Lies (2017-2019) as well as The Apple TV+ drama series The Morning Show (2019-present) and the Hulu miniseries Little Fires Everywhere (2020). The Primetime Emmy Award was won for Outstanding Limited Series in the initial episode of these shows. She produced the film adaptations of Gone Girl (2014) as in Where the Crawdads Sing (1922). Witherspoon also owns Draper James, a clothing business and is active in advocacy groups for women and children. She is on the board of the Children's Defense Fund and was honoured to be the chair of Avon Foundation's charity for women's causes in 2007.
